A familiar face is taking the reins of the Vallivue boys basketball program.

The school announced Wednesday that assistant coach Mario Betancourt is the new man in charge. Betancourt was former coach Ryan Lundgren’s assistant for three seasons.

The Falcons took second at state, won a 4A Southern Idaho Conference championship and made it to state all three years he was on the bench.

Betancourt replaces Lundgren, who left after four seasons last month to take an assistant job with the College of Southern Idaho. Lundgren went 62-44.

SALE ADDS TO MEDAL COUNT: Boise State’s Lauren Sale added a silver medal in the 100-meter butterly Wednesday, swimming for Samoa at the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.

Sale captured gold in the 200-meter backstroke on Tuesday.

She swam two personal-best times in the 100-meter fly, turning in a 1:05.46 in the prelims followed with a 1:04.27 in the final.

MCGREGOR SELECTED TO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Boise State gymnast Courtney McGregord, a rising senior, has been picked to represent her home country, New Zealand, at the FIG Artistic Gymnastic World Championships, Oct. 4-13 in Stuttgart, Germany.

She will have an opportunity to earn a second straight Olympics bid after competing in the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro. The 2020 Summer Games will be held in Tokyo.

TRANSFER ADDED TO ROSTER: The Boise State softball team added Hannah Bailey to its 2019-20 roster, head coach Maggie Livreri announced.

Bailey comes to Boise State after playing two seasons at the University of Minnesota. She will have two years of eligibility remaining.

While at Minnesota, Bailey, a right-handed pitcher, made 13 appearanced, one as a starter and 12 as a reliever. She posted a career ERA of 2.71 in 20.2 innings and recorded a shutout win in her only start. She is originally from Vista, California.
