Returning home proved fruitful for the Idaho football team Saturday night.

A week after a 29-7 shellacking at Penn State, the Vandals fought off NCAA Division II Central Washington 41-31 at the Kibbie Dome.

The teams were tied 17-17 at halftime.

Idaho (1-1) went ahead 31-24, but Central Washington (0-1) wouldn’t back down.

The Vandals hit the road next week when they (2-0), which fought off Texas State in a 23-14 decision Saturday.

Idaho returns home the following week to take on Eastern Washington, which played for the FCS national championship in January.
