The College of Idaho football will open the season as a ranked team for the first time in program history.
The Yotes were selected as No. 15 in the preseason NAIA Top 25 poll released Monday, the highest poll position in program history. The 164 points are also the most points received in a poll.
Last week, the College of Idaho was picked by Frontier Conference coaches and media as preseason favorites to win the league. The Yotes ended last season on a six-game winning streak after starting the season 0-5. They return 20 starters from last year’s team, including all 11 starters on the offensive side of the ball. The Yotes ended last season ranked No. 22.
Three other Frontier Conference teams are ranked in the standings. Southern Oregon is ranked No. 20, while Rocky Mountain starts the season at No. 23. Montana Western rounds out the rankings, coming in at No. 25. Eastern Oregon and Montana Tech each received votes in the initial poll.
Defending national champion Morningside (Iowa) starts the season at No. 1 after receiving all 16 first-place votes.
