The Boise boys soccer team recorded its eighth straight win to start the season and remained unbeaten with a 2-0 win over Borah Monday night in 5A Southern Idaho Conference play.
The Brave (8-0) has now outscored its opponents 22-5 this season.
Thomas Ryden and Nick Liebich scored Boise’s goals. Nick Black and Jack Payne combined for the shutout with two and one saves, respectively.
TIMBERLINE 2, CAPITAL 0: Justin Smith and Jake Anderson both had a goal as the Wolves (1-3-2) picked up their first win of the season in SIC play.
Keepers Gideon Coprivnicar and Ben Anderson combined for seven total saves in the shutout with four and three, respectively.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN 2, EAGLE 1: Truman Hoggan scored the lone goal for the Mustangs (3-3) in the SIC loss.
No stats were reported for the Grizzlies (3-2).
CENTENNIAL 2, SKYVIEW 1: SeinMin Lay and Dino Draganovic each scored, while Roark Looney made 11 saves in front of the net, as the Patriots (6-1, 1-0 5A SIC) edged the Hawks (0-5-2 in league play.
COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 3, AMBROSE 0: Senior outside hitter Brooke Weimer bagged seven kills, three blocks and six digs, while fellow senior outside hitter Maddie Cooke added 12 kills in a nonconference win for the Chargers.
C OF I’S CALZARETTA PLAYER OF THE WEEK AGAIN: College of Idaho running back Nick Calzaretta earned his second consecutive Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week award.
The junior, from Larkspur, Calif., had a monster outing in the Coyotes 28-14 victory at Montana Tech — recording a career-high 247 yards rushing on 24 carries.
Calzaretta had a 61-yard run to set up C of I’s first touchdown and closed the scoring with a 58-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
His 247 yards were the most by a Coyote since 1953 and the third-highest rushing total in program history. Ted Martin rushed for 267 yards in a 1953 win over Idaho State and Tom Winbigler rushed for 297 yards in a 1948 win at British Columbia.
Calzaretta leads both the Frontier Conference and the NAIA with his 371 rushing yards on the season.
BOISE STATE’S WALLEY NAMED MW PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Boise State senior outside hitter Janell Walley has been named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Broncos to a weekend sweep and the Thunderbird Classic championship at Cedar City, Utah, over the weekend. This is Walley’s second MW Offensive Player of the Week honor in her career.
