When you drive Highway 21 northeast of Stanley near the meadows along Marsh Creek, you might do a double take. Pronghorns? Yup, pronghorns migrate into the Sawtooth Valley in spring and stay until late fall when they return to lower elevations to spend the winter. It’s sure fun seeing the big game animals racing across the meadows in the high country. Keep looking closely and you also may see a few sandhill cranes hanging around a little late before migrating, or a herd of elk moving from the meadows to heavy timber. Grab the binoculars and drive the back roads around Stanley for some great wildlife watching.
