The beginning of ski season may still be months away, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the fresh blanket of snow covering Bogus Basin on Tuesday morning.{!--/BFC Brief Body Copy--}

A rainstorm that brought wet conditions to the lower Treasure Valley fell as snow in the mountains. Bogus Basin received between 2 and 3 inches of snow overnight, according to Bogus Basin Community and Customer Relations Director Susan Saad, while Tamarack Resort got more than 2 inches.{!--/BFC Brief Body Copy--}

The National Weather Service said areas above 5,500 feet were cold enough to get snow.{!--/BFC Brief Body Copy--}

After record-setting heat cloaked the Treasure Valley this summer, the September snow may have surprised some. But it’s not atypical, Saad said.{!--/BFC Brief Body Copy--}

“It’s not terribly unusual for us to receive snow this time of year,” Saad said in an email. “In fact, we received our first snow two years ago on this same date.”{!--/BFC Brief Body Copy--}

Saad said the snow will likely melt as the temperatures rise throughout the week, providing ideal trail-riding conditions.{!--/BFC Brief Body Copy--}
