CANYON COUNTY — A 28-year-old Mexican national was sentenced Monday in 3rd District Court to 35 years in prison with 10 years fixed, Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney Bryan Taylor said in a prepared statement.
Gerardo Contreras had sexual contact with a 5-year-old girl — the child of his girlfriend at the time — in 2011, according to information presented in court. A joint investigation by the Nampa and Caldwell police departments resulted in a felony warrant, but Contreras was deported to Mexico on a separate charge before it was executed.
Contreras re-entered the country illegally and was arrested on the outstanding warrant in January of 2013, Taylor said.
“The act of sexual intercourse with a 5- to 6-year-old child is unconscionable and needs punishment,” Judge Thomas J. Ryan said as he handed down the sentence. “I don’t think I need to say anything more than that. It is as evil of behavior as the court sees.”
