NAMPA —The Lighthouse Rescue Mission will dedicate a new veterans dorm at 11 a.m. Saturday to honor a Caldwell native who was killed in Afghanistan.
The Veterans Transitional Living Program Dorm will be named to honor Staff Sgt. Octavio Herrera who was killed while serving with the 101st Airborne Division.
“The veterans program of the rescue mission is designed to assist veterans experiencing homelessness to move back into independent living,” Mission CEO Bill Roscoe said. “We want to offer help, compassion and the life skills necessary for our vets to become independent again. Staff Sgt. Herrera’s life reflected that same desire to see people move up into a better place.”
Speakers at the event include Idaho Army National Guard Col. Rob Lytle, Mayor Bob Henry and Idaho Army National Guard Chaplain Col. Rob Morris.
The Mission is at 304 16th Ave. S. in Nampa.
