Friday’s Sparklight Movie Night at Settlers Park in Meridian has been canceled, according to the Meridian Parks and Recreation Department.

The cancellation comes as a direct result from issues that occurred at the city’s first movie night on June 10.

The department made the decision to cancel this week’s event due to “general concerns centered around juveniles being loud with disruptive behavior and causing altercations,” according to a statement posted to the Meridian special events website.

“This is a family-friendly event, people need to behave appropriately,” Meridian public safety spokesperson Kelsey Johnston said.

According to Johnston, updated safety and security measures are being discussed at a city level.

The public will be made aware of any changes before the next movie night, which is scheduled for June 24.
