BOISE — A woman was shot and killed by Boise police officers early Sunday morning near the intersection of State Street and Clover Drive.
Officers responded to a call for a suspicious person around 6 a.m. in the 900 block of Clover Drive near Veterans Memorial Park and found a woman in her car. According to Boise Police Sgt. Corey Smith, she was "non-compliant" and pulled a weapon on officers, and they fired. She died at the scene.
On Sunday morning, Smith briefed the media on the shooting and said the names of the woman and officers involved have not yet been released. There is no information available about what kind of weapon the woman had during the shooting.
The incident is under investigation by the Meridian Police Department under the Critical Incident Task Force.
"These situations are very tragic, both for the officers involved, loved ones of the deceased subject and for our community as a whole," Smith said.
Danny Boyd, a resident of the neighborhood, called the police after a woman mistakenly banged on his door yelling around 6 a.m demanding items stolen from her while she was in jail be returned. Boyd said she left his property when she realized she had the wrong house and began to drive down the street yelling about the items until the police arrived.
"She went to leave and U-turned in the street, and I told the officer that was the person he was looking for and he blocked her off in the street," Boyd said, standing next to Veterans Memorial Park Sunday morning with his son. "That's when I went back in the house. I heard the shots about 4 minutes later."
"It was bam-bam-bam-bam-bam," she said after the press conference. "...I just heard the pattern of shots and counted. I had to count afterwards because it was so fast."
