A new subdivision is planned for South Meridian Road, between Amity and Victory roads.

Meridian City Council on Tuesday approved a 35-acre subdivision with 223 residential units.

The development, Stapleton Subdivision, has 116 single-family detached houses, 96 single-family attached units and 28 fourplex units. The project includes a basketball court, dog park for small dogs, children’s play structure, swings, rock climbing dome and boulders, and pedestrian pathways, according to the staff report. It is being developed by Stapleton, LLC.

Hawkins Company Property plans to build commercial, retail and office space, and multifamily units just south of the Stapleton Subdivision, according to a site plan submitted by DevCo Development. Brandon Whallon, predevelopment manager for Hawkins, testified at Tuesday’s meeting that Hawkins planned to follow through with the development.

Both properties are designated mixed-use regional. Sonya Allen, associate city planner, said the combination of the two developments — Hawkins and Stapleton Subdivision — will meet the designation.
