Burger fans rejoice: Good Burger plans to open two restaurants in the Meridian area this year.

The first is slated to open in May at 3143 E. Magic View Drive, across from St. Luke’s Meridian on Eagle Road. The restaurant will have a self-serve beer area with 30 craft beers to taste and test, said Nicholas Jones, founder and CEO of Good Burger.

The second location is planned to open later on Fairview Avenue, two miles east of The Village at Meridian. Jones said this location is delayed, and staff are trying to “work out a better target date.”

Good Burger opened its first location in Boise last year. The restaurant has since expanded into one other location and has a third opening March 10 on Tenth and Main streets in downtown Boise.

“We do have amazing burgers,” Jones said. “We’ve had people come from Texas because they’re heard how awesome our fries are.”

Jones first dreamed up the idea of opening Good Burger while he was getting his MBA at the University of Notre Dame in 2013.

While there Jones was learning about using for-profit businesses to give back to the community.

“I said, ‘Hey, that’s what I want to do,’” Jones said.

In November, Good Burger staff and Jones flew down to a Haitian refugee camp and put together community water filters and hygiene kits. The burger franchise also paid for oral surgeons and a dental hygienist to visit and provide free dental work for those in need. Jones said he plans to do the same thing this October.

On March 17 the burger business will host its annual free fry day and donate $1 of every purchase to a local nonprofit.

Correction: The article has been corrected to show that the Fairview Avenue Good Burger is opening a little more than a mile outside of Meridian. The article previously stated it would be in Meridian city limits.
