Mountain View High School runner Lexy Halladay has earned her second Gatorade Idaho Athlete of the Year award — and she’s only a freshman.

Lexy Halladay, who earlier this month clocked the fastest mile among high school girls nationwide, was named June 22 as the Gatorade Idaho Track Athlete of the Year, according to the Halladay family. Her time of 4:41:80 broke the national freshman mile record.

In January, the Gatorade Company recognized Halladay as the Idaho Cross Country Runner of the Year.

“It’s an honor, really, it’s a big award,” said Jenn Halladay, Lexy’s mother. “And for them to consider Lexy again, it’s just huge.”

The award is meaningful because it’s not just about sports, Jenn Halladay said, but about the athlete’s work in the classroom and service to the community.

Lexy Halladay volunteers through her church and plays violin for services at the assisted living facility her father manages, Jenn Halladay said.
