MERIDIAN — The West Ada School District is considering revisions to its transportation discipline policy that would make parents/students liable for damage to school bus property and require bus drivers to issue verbal warnings before disciplining a student.

Meridian school Chief Joseph School of the Arts was one of 362 schools recognized statewide as a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine has named Chet Burrell at the new board of trustees chairman, the school announced Wednesday.

When he was serving in the United States Marine Band, Ben Blessing and his close friend decided to run the Marine Corps Marathon. Before his friend could, however, he died in an accident. Blessing decided he would run an ultra marathon, a feat of 42 miles, for him.

MERIDIAN — The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine, or ICOM, unveiled its new research lab on Friday. The medical school in Meridian, Idaho’s first, opened last summer.

Over the past year, first responders and school officials in the Treasure Valley have been working together to build a uniform model for responding to school threats. That group, called the Valley Wide School Safety Committee, is ready to launch new safety standards in schools this August.

Chief Joseph School of the Arts was one of two schools chosen to be Idaho’s nominees for the 2019 National Blue Ribbon Award in December 2018. The other school was Burton Elementary School in the Madison School District.

Pat Absalonson, teacher at Lewis and Clark Middle School, along with three other Idaho teachers, was honored for his outstanding instruction during Boise State University’s winter commencement ceremony on Dec. 15.
