It's the time of year that I like to reflect and give thanks for the blessings in my life. As a parent, I’m very thankful for the opportunity to choose my son’s school.

My son, Cody Wyman, is now a 7th grader with INSPIRE, the Idaho Connections Academy, an online public school that has met his learning needs in ways that his previous school couldn’t. He is a free-spirited kid, and online school allows him to work at his own pace and during the peak hours that he is able to easily be attentive. Also, he has been within an environment that is conducive to his learning style and his need for movement during the day and between assignments.

Attending a cyber school has allowed him the time he needs to master the skills he’s struggling with, and the flexibility to move ahead in areas in which he excels.

As a parent and learning coach, I work closely with Cody’s teachers to help him be the best student he can be. Cody and I are in constant communication with his teachers and know they are never more than a phone call, email or online class away. This is also teaching him to master the skill of email communication, which is essential for today’s adults, so it’s a benefit to develop that at such a young age.

Online schooling has also allowed him to participate in NICA and the Idaho High School Cycling League. Mountain bike racing does require some traveling out of town, and virtual schooling’s flexibility allows him to never miss a moment of his education since he can log into his classes anytime and anywhere.

He is getting a very well-rounded education in a school that is the best fit for him. I’m so grateful for Connections Academy and the blessing it has been to our family.
