DEC. 20 BOYS BASKETBALL

At the mid-season mark Melba Boys Varsity Basketball is 6 and 2 (as of Dec. 20).

Some key wins were over Homedale (twice), Weiser and Liberty Charter. The team is pretty even in scoring with Michael Huntsman leading the way at 8.1 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per game. Easton Bunnell is second both in points (7.6) and rebounds (6.3).

“This is the deepest Melba has been in a couple years,” coach Spencer Trappett wrote in an email. “We have an inside presence with Huntsman, Bunnell and sophomore Henry Clark, something that we haven’t had for a while.”

MELBA 35, PARMA 51: Melba was led by Dillon Bodily with 10 points. Easton Bunnell added seven points and six rebounds.

DEC. 19 WRESTLING

KUNA 20, COLUMBIA 49: Michael Mitchel, Dante Roggio, Cael Palmer, Malakai Moyer and Cedar Miller won their matches in the dual.

DEC. 18 GIRLS BASKETBALL

KUNA 61, RIDGEVUE 29: Mikayla Rausch lead Kuna with 11 points. Gracee Gustin contributed 10.

MELBA 53, COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 47: Emma Clark lead Melba with 20 points and four assists. Kortney Trappett contributed 17 points.

Melba girls have finished the first half of the year with a record of 10-1. The only loss came to the Parma Panthers Nov. 17.

This season, we have been led by our senior point guard, Emma Clark, who is leading the team is scoring (13ppg), assists (6apg) and steal (6spg).

“Clark played a big role in our recent win against Cole Valley, who was ranked #2 in the state by the 2A coaches,” coach Dave Lenz wrote in an email. “The highlight of the season so far would have to be our win over Cole Valley. It was a game where we started out great but ended up giving up the lead in the third quarter. In the 4th quarter, we played some of our best basketball by outscoring them 20-11. As a coach, it was great to see them show some fight and not give up when they could have.”

Senior Mary Ellen Cossel (5 ppg, 10 rpg), juniors Kortney Trappett (11ppg, 8rpg) and Jordan Dayley (10 ppg) as well as sophomore Kate Clark (11ppg) join Emma in the starting lineup.

DEC. 15 BOYS BASKETBALL

MELBA 45, LIBERTY CHARTER 43: Melba was led by Easton Bunnell with 11 points and seven rebounds. Caleb Fong contributed nine points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

MELBA 42, NEW PLYMOUTH 23: Emma Clark scores her 1,000 career point and contributed 13 points and five steals for Melba’s win. Katelyn Young added 13 points.

DEC. 14 BOYS BASKETBALL

WEISER 59, MELBA 43: Easton Bunnell and Dillon Bodily led the mustangs with 10 apiece. Bunnell added eight rebounds.

DEC. 13 BOYS BASKETBALL

KUNA 53, RIGBY 63: No other stats were provided.
