BASEBALL

MELBA 14, PAYETTE 4

Melba Mustang Baseball is off to a 7-0 start this season and easily dispatched Payette in six innings Saturday, March 23.

In the first inning, Melba Mustangs got their offense started. Seth Dice singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

Melba Mustangs Varsity tallied five runs in the sixth inning. The rally was led by singles by Henry Clark and Jake Svedin and an error on a ball put in play by Abe Riley.

Mark Stradley took the win for Melba Mustangs Varsity. He lasted four innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out four. Tim Reinertson and Riley entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Melba Mustangs racked up 14 hits in the game. Dice, Reinertson, and Svedin each had multiple hits for Melba Mustangs Varsity. Reinertson and Dice each collected three hits to lead Melba Mustangs. Melba Mustangs were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Dice had the most chances in the field with six. Melba Mustangs tore up the base paths, as six players stole at least two bases. Reinertson led the way with five.

MELBA 4, VALE 3

A walk-off single by Seth Dice in the bottom of the ninth inning led Melba Mustangs Varsity past Vale 4-3 on Friday, March 22. The game was tied at three with Melba Mustangs Varsity batting in the bottom of the ninth when Seth Dice singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

Melba Mustangs Varsity earned the victory despite allowing Vale to score three runs in the fourth inning. Vale batters contributing to the big inning included Jason Ponce, Isael Lopez and Tanner Hamilton, who all drove in runs.

Melba Mustangs Varsity evened things up at three in the bottom of the fifth inning. Abe Riley singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Dillion Bodily took the win for Melba Mustangs Varsity. He went five innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out four and walking zero.

Matt McBride started the game for Vale. He went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out 11. Aldred threw three and a third innings in relief.

Henry Clark started the game for Melba Mustangs Varsity. He allowed two hits and three runs over four innings, striking out five.

Melba Mustangs Varsity collected eight hits. Riley and Jake Svedin all collected multiple hits for Melba Mustangs Varsity. Svedin and Riley each managed two hits to lead Melba Mustangs Varsity.

SOFTBALL

MELBA 14, PAYETTE 7

The Mustangs beat the Pirates in non-league play at Payette Thursday, March 21. Cindy Read lead Melba with four RBIs and Andrina Webster had three hits.

MELBA 29, MARSING 6

The Mustangs beat the Huskies in league play at Marsing Wednesday, March 20. Andrina Webster had six RBI’s and three hits for Melba in the win.

TRACK & FIELD

Melba competed against Cole Valley Christian and Nampa Christian Wednesday, March 20. Nampa Christian hosted the meet.

Erika Hunter, Myah Wiese, Lynae Richardson and Faith Svedin took third in the 4x100 meters with a time of almost 1 minute

Kortney Trappett, Jordan Dayley, Telissa Christensen and Kate Clark took first in the 4x200 meters with a time of 1:52.62 minutes
