Two Kuna students have qualified for the USA Track and Field National Championships in Sacramento, California, from July 22-28. Ammon Fuhriman, a Kuna Middle School eighth grader, and Kody Biggs, a Kuna Middle School seventh grader, have qualified to attend the event, according to Matt Biggs.

Fuhriman won the 13/14 pole vault, clearing 9 feet 6 inches at the USA Track and Field Region 11 Championships in Bozeman, Montana. At the same championship, Biggs won the 13/14 discus and 13/14 shot put, claiming a meet record of 35 feet 1 1/4 inches.

JD Grant of Avalon Dentistry has been coaching Fuhriman in the pole vault this year, and Biggs’ summer coach is Ozie Duncan, former two-time U.S. National Team javelin thrower and assistant track coach at Northwest Nazarene University.

The top five placers at the regional tournament — which brought contestants from southern and eastern Idaho, Utah, Montana and Wyoming — qualified for the national tournament. Biggs is registered and plans to attend nationals.
