At the Melba 4th of July Celebration, Heidi Stirm was honored as Citizen of the Year for 2019. Heidi is married to Dan Stirm and is the mother of four girls and a grandmother to three. She has a large extended family and many others call her Mom Stirm. As a teacher of family and consumer science at Melba High School for the past 26 years, Mrs. Stirm teaches the book skills of budgeting, entrepreneurship and economics, along with the life skills of hard work and cooperation in a family unit. Mrs. Stirm was honored nationally for FCCLA “Integration of Core Academics” in 2016-2017 and was honored with the State of Idaho FCCLA “Spirit of Advising” award in 2018. You can find her teaching in the classroom, in the concession stand, in the gym, and in the community. Service is evident in her personal and family life, her career and her community life.
Her service in the community is well known. Many years ago she took over the task of making noodles for the Melba Community Auction and the Melba Holiday Bazaar. With her family or her students you will find her cooking scones, making candy and popcorn balls, putting logos in t-shirts, always helping out. On Saturdays you will often find her running the clock for the little league basketball program or at the scorers table at the game that night.
She serves tirelessly in her church taking on many different assignments from teaching small children to helping other ladies learn new skills. You might even find her taking a group of boy scouts to Celebration Park on a Saturday morning.
Heidi is a great example of what Melba is known for — good, hard-working, caring, people.
