A familiar, and notorious, face has entered the race for Boise mayor, writes Idaho Press reporter Margaret Carmel. In a surprise announcement Friday, former Mayor Brent Coles announced he is running for the city's highest office once again, over 15 years since he resigned in shroud of scandal.
"My name is Brent Coles, and I’m running for the office of mayor in Boise, Idaho, so we can change the priorities and the policies, just as we did back in the '80s, so this can be a beautiful city to raise our families and be a part of," Coles said Friday morning to a crowd gathered at the Train Depot in Boise.
Coles pled guilty to one count of each of fraud and misuse of public money and was sentenced to six months in the Ada County Jail in early 2004. He was released on February 23, 2004 and stayed out of the public eye until this year. You can read Carmel's full story here at idahopress.com, or pick up tomorrow's edition of the Idaho Press.
