Boys soccer leads Emmett's All-SIC selections

2019 4A SIC Coach of the Year

The Emmett boys soccer team earned two of the three first-team selections from EHS when the All-Southern Idaho Conference fall sports teams were announced last week. Aristeo Alvizo, head coach of the boys soccer team was also honored as SIC 4A Soccer Coach of the Year.

The boys soccer team which finished the season with a 14-7-1 record after having gone winless the previous two seasons, earned the fourth place trophy at the Idaho High School Activities Association State championships the end of October.

Alvizo was selected for the Coach of the Year honors by vote of his opposing head coaches.

Lennyn “Kiko” Solis and Oscar Lara-Sandoval were first team All-SIC soccer selections. Solis, who set a school record with 42 goals this season, finished second in the player of the year voting by one vote to Caldwell’s Damian Arguello who led the Cougars to their second straight State title. Solis and Lara-Sandoval are both seniors.

Eight Huskies overall received All-SIC boys soccer honors. Receiving honorable mention were seniors Jose Lara and Eric Ayala, juniors Jason Alvarado, Conner Heideman and Ryan Solis. Sophomore Jorge Rivera was also named to the HM squad. Ryan Solis was named to the HM listings both as a defender and a goalie.

Girls soccer was the recipient of the other first-team honors handed out to Huskies last week. Junior Goldie Mumford was named to the All-SIC elite squad as a midfielder for the second consecutive year. Junior Victoria Massey received honorable mention as a defender.

The Emmett volleyball team placed three on the All-SIC Volleyball squad. Sophomore hitter Graycee Wilkerson and senior libero Malena Ratcliff were named to the second-team. Junior center-hitter/blocker McCall Maxfield received honorable mention honors.

The Emmett High football team did not place a first team selection on the All-SIC team but did have ten players selected overall.

Four juniors were singled out for the All-SIC offensive team led by second-team running back Westyn Smith and second-team lineman Tony Lugo. Offensive honorable mentions went to tight end Curtis Johnson and center Layne Dalton.

Five defensive standouts received conference recognition. Senior safety Riley Weekes and junior linebacker Axel Sanchez were second team selections. Honorable mention honors went to seniors Cael Farnsworth as a linebacker and Jake Brennan as a safety. Junior defensive lineman Miguel Lara also received honorable mention.

Sophomore quarterback and punter Caden Young was named as an honorable mention to the All-SIC Flex Utility team.

The Huskies finished sixth in the nine team SIC this year in football, recording a 3-6 overall record. All six teams that Emmett lost to this season not only advanced to the 4A State playoffs last week, all six won and will be playing in the quarterfinals this week. Five of the eight 4A quarter-finalists are from the SIC for the second consecutive year.
