Valor Health nurses are dedicated to quality care and compassionate service. This past year we chose to incorporate the DAISY Award program into our organization as an opportunity to highlight and thank our nurses for the work that they do.

The DAISY Award is an international program, created by the family of Patrick Barnes, in honor of Patrick and the skillful and compassionate care he received from his nurses during his eight-week hospitalization. His family wanted to say “thank you” to nurses everywhere by establishing a recognition program – The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses (The DAISY Award) – to honor the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day.

This past year we received over 70 nominations from Valor patients, sharing stories of kindness and above-and-beyond actions of our amazing nurses. A committee of Valor Health Leadership and Community Members from our Patient and Family Advisory Clinic reviewed each nomination anonymously, selecting two Valor nurses to award this year- Becky Waller, RN, and Teresa Heezen, RN.

Meet Becky- Becky has 25 years of nursing experience in Infusion Services, Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Surgical Peri-Operative Care. Becky is driven by her caring heart and creative mind, offering our patients a dedicated healthcare partner throughout their diagnosis and course of treatment. She takes pride in educating and advocating for her patients. Becky currently works in the Valor Health Infusion and Oncology Services department, but served as Valor Surgical Nurse, where she made a large impact on the patients she served.

Her nomination reads “Becky was just great in all aspects. She was patient while other staff did their jobs. She could see when I was uncomfortable and addressed issues immediately. She was friendly and efficient. She was knowledgeable about my health conditions and quite insightful. She was very friendly and showed genuine concerns as well on her follow-up call. I was very grateful to have such a great nurse. I definitely give her 5 stars! Thank you, Valor and Becky, for the great care I received.”

Meet Teresa- Teresa is our Chronic Care Manager at Valor Health Family Medicine and is dedicated to being a partner to her patients throughout their health journey. She has 33 years of experience as an RN in Oncology, Med Surg, Long-term Care, Case Management, and Chronic Care and has been at Valor Health for the past 2 years. Teresa is responsible for growing the Chronic Care program and has built meaningful relationships with her patients and their families, helping them navigate the healthcare system and provide support when needed.

Her nomination reads, “We have been amazed at how she goes out of her way to help our dad. She is always willing to go above and beyond, not just once, but she does this routinely. She helps dad understand his medicines- getting his pills setup in dispensaries so he knows what to take and when. Helping him understand how his meal choices affect his glucose and the impact this has on his health. She goes out of her wat to assist him, checking in on him at the hospital when he recently had surgery and phoning late to see how it had gone. She has always been so gracious in helping my sister and I understand the situations with our dad’s health. Calling us when concerns arise and answering all of our many questions when we call her. She helped us get some in home care arranged on a couple occasions. We live in Boise and Nampa, but our dad very much wants to remain in Emmett. Knowing that Dad sees her each week has given us peace of mind that he has someone so wonderfully caring who keeps an eye on him and helps us find solutions that allow him to remain independent. Amazingly we hear she provides the same level of care to all of her patients. She is absolutely wonderful and a credit to her profession.”
