The Emmett Valley Friendship Coalition continues to provide food to our community each Tuesday through a dinner and pantry. Our volunteers have been marvelous in navigating the ever changing requirements and safety protocols of the pandemic. They meet the changes with smiles and enthusiasm.

Earlier this spring we received a grant from Little Family Endowment in the Idaho Community Foundation for general operations. This endowment has been very supportive of us through the years and we are proud to call them a strong partner.

We continue to benefit from the Gem / Boise County 4-H Leadership Council food drives. If you would like to support them, check out the Fair later this summer. All the clubs will collect food in a challenge. Also, they will hold a Drive Out Hunger Classic Car Show on Sept. 11 from 10 — 2. Participation fee is canned food for us! These young adults are great examples of our future.

We have partnered with the U of I and their Eat Smart Idaho food preparation program. A hands-on class will take place from 1-2 pm, Aug. 4 through Sept. 8 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. This is great program will focus on eating well, using fresh ingredients and saving money.

We are looking for someone, maybe an older teen, to provide on-site child care.

If Gem County follows the national trend of households with insufficient food, we will have more people going without food in the post-pandemic world. The EVFC board is working hard to ensure we are able to meet this increase demand.

Believe it or not, we are already looking toward the Christmas Cheer Basket program. More information about how you may get involved will be coming soon.

Our weekly programs take place each Tuesday at 719 S. Johns Ave. The pantry is in the building behind the senior center from 3:15 — 6 pm. Dinner is offered both dine-in and take-out inside the center from 5 — 6:30 pm. Don’t let the road construction keep you away. You may contact us at 208-3369-7195 or
