Truth and liberty needs to be restored, our Constitution needs to be followed, and the voice of the people needs to be heard---not ignored. We need real representation in our district and state, and for the people to be part of that process.
What are your top three priorities if elected?

1. Education, education is the foundation for the next generation. I support excellence in education and local control, not experimental programs mandated through federal government. We are spending a large part of our states budget in education, yet have little to show for it. 2. The tax and spend mentality is hurting Idaho families who have to live within a realistic budget. Agencies should be encouraged to accomplish their end goal within budget, and appropriations should be for legitimate and necessary things. With a continued state surplus, I believe it is time to give Idahoans a little tax relief. 3. States rights. State's rights and local and personal control are being diminished by the federal government in many aspects, including religious freedom, education, lands, water rights and more. The states, including Idaho are falling more and more into the tangled wed and entrapment of accepting federal money. By doing this, Idaho is not economically independent nor sovereign.

My past and current political activities are in harmony with the desires of good people of Idaho. I have the necessary expertise, abilities, and knowledge to give me a real understanding of where our state is at and what it is needing. I also understand the process, the people, and the proper function and role of government. I know what it takes to work with the people, be a leader and a legislature, this sets me apart from my opponent.

The Idaho Board of Correction is requesting $500 million for a prison expansion. Do you support this expansion, why or why not?
Brian A. Ertz
Democrat

Tammy Nichols

I do not support this request currently. I believe that there are other alternatives available, and that we need to be looking at who we are incarcerating and why, as Idaho has one of the highest incarceration rates in the country. We also need to really be looking at our wants versus our needs, and an audit might be helpful to conduct.
Idaho?s justice reinvestment committee is exploring changes to drug sentencing law in Idaho as a tool for reducing the state?s prison population. What do you think should be done in the area of drug sentencing laws?

Idaho currently has one of the highest incarceration rates in the country, and a large portion of the prison population is drug related. There are 4 things I believe we should be looking at regarding drug sentencing laws. 1. Eliminate prison for lower-level crimes. 2. Reduce sentence minimums and maximums currently on the books. 3. Make these changes retroactive. 4. Bring in more ideas such as Prosecutors who could seek lower penalties when appropriate, eliminate ineffective policies and laws, and reinvest savings into crime prevention polices.
