Parma’s Crystal Gallegos has spent the last couple of months in Washington, D.C., working as an intern for the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Migrant Education! This was a pretty awesome opportunity, and I’m glad she took it. Acknowledgement goes to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute for hosting the internship.

Speaking as someone who also once had an internship in D.C., though it wasn’t with the government, I can say she’s basically been studying abroad for two months. The culture is quite different there, and there are so many sights to see and things to experience. She is one lucky girl.

In a letter I received from the Institute, Crystal says the experience has been “full of learning and self-empowerment.” I hope it finishes off well, too, Crystal. I’m sure there are a lot of people here waiting to hear about it.

For those Hispanic students interested in possibly taking advantage of the same internship (it includes work, remember. Research, writing, meetings, data entry and more!), visit to learn more and apply. The deadline is in November.
