This ghost gold and silver mining town is only about two hours away from Boise and a great day trip. The city was founded in 1864 and is charming to visit. The drive up is a winding one and at times a bit harrowing but, the desert makes way for mountain forest and the city is still snuggled in between a field of trees. There are numerous historic buildings to look at and people can drive through a one-way grid or opt to park and walk around. There's also a small store and gift shop open for drinks and snacks and the hotel is open until mid-October.
