An important moment in a concert is the come-closer plea. It's the point when a musician asks or urges the audience to come closer to the stage. If people move forward, the musician has most likely won them over.
When The Foxxtones' Cassie Lewis invited the crowd at the Bouquet March 25, to come closer, it moved up instantly. It was easy to understand why: Lewis's soulful wail and fluttery melismatic runs established her as one of the best young singers in Boise. Her eerie, hypnotic blues riffs added to the power of her vocals. So did guitarist Adam Schwaderer's dexterous fretwork.
"Feel free to dance with each other if you want," Lewis said later in the set. No one did. The singing may have distracted them.
