Former Boise State volleyball standout Sabryn Roberts has signed a professional contract to play overseas in Europe.
Roberts has agreed to join the Greek sports club Aias Evosmou located in the city of Thessaloniki, Greece. Aias Evosmou competes in the top level of the Greek Women’s Volleyball League, the A1 Ethniki (first division).
“I’m so excited to have this chance to continue playing volleyball,” Roberts said in a news release. “I’ve always dreamed about playing after college, when I was younger I idolized the USA team. As a junior in high school I traveled to Europe with my volleyball club. We played against teams from the places we visited. When coach Garus gave me the opportunity to participate on the MW All-Stars in Croatia last summer that sealed the deal for me. I knew going overseas was something I wanted to pursue. Playing at Boise State was a great experience that helped me grow as a player and person, I’m excited for this opportunity of a lifetime to continue my career in Greece.”
Roberts is the first Boise State alum in recent memory to sign professionally to play volleyball. She was a highly decorated senior on last year’s Boise State team that went 18-11 overall. The native of Los Angeles was a two-time All-Mountain West selection and honorable mention once.
The senior outside hitter was known for her powerful attacks and hard serves. She led the Broncos in 2018 for kills with 403 to rank fifth in the Mountain West and averaged a team-high 3.6 per set. Roberts finished her career ranked third all-time at Boise State in kills with 1,292 and sixth in kills per set at 3.00.
Roberts helped Boise State to 84 wins in her four years; the Mountain West Conference championship and the school’s first NCAA Tournament appearance as a sophomore in 2016; as well as, a National Invitational Volleyball Championship berth during her junior season in 2017.
The four-year starter was also a standout in the classroom at Boise State being named a four-time Academic All-MW honoree. She graduated this past May with a degree in communication.
Roberts will leave for Greece at the end of August to join Aias Evosmou in preparation for the club’s new season which runs from September to March.
