This week, Rocky Mountain faces reigning state finalist Eagle, which features running-passing quarterback Taylor Kelly.

He was an instrumental factor when Eagle defeated Rocky Mountain, 42-28 on Oct. 23. That's when the senior quarterback connected with receiver Jordan Thompson for back-to-back third quarter touchdowns, breaking open a tie game. Whether it was through the air (21-of-30, 244 yards) or on the ground (22 carries, 119 yards), Kelly inflicted damage and accounted for three touchdowns.

Rocky Mountain has a dual threat of its own in the likes of Tevin Archuleta, who accounted for all four Rocky Mountain scores in that previous meeting. He was 16-of-23 passing for 233 yards and three touchdowns, and also scored on a 2-yard run.

Jordan Deck (100 carries, 770 yards, 11 TD) and Sam Reid (111 carries, 717 yards, 8 TD) provide a 1-2 punch in the Rocky Mountain backfield, but they'll face an Eagle defense which was third in the 5A SIC in rushing yards allowed (135.8).

The winner plays Coeur d'Alene or Lake City.

Mountain View (7-2) vs. Capital (9-0) at Bronco Stadium

Mountain View and Capital will meet in the state playoffs for the second consecutive year. Last year, both prolific offenses disappeared and Mountain View walked away with a 3-0 victory, before losing to eventual state champion Highland.

Fast forward to this season, and the matchup features Mountain View's No.1-rated offense (457.5 ypg, 36.8 ppg) against Capital's No. 1-rated defense (206.8 ypg, 11.3 ppg).

Mountain View, which defeated Meridian 42-7 in last week's district round, is led by Michael Ho-Lewis (148 rushes, 1,077 yards, 15 TD), Daniel McSurdy (73 carries, 689 yards, 11 TD) and quarterback Tyson Percifield (126-of-189 passing, 1,755 yards, 10 TD, seven INT).

Capital's defense, meanwhile, has yielded just 667 rushing yards through last week's 35-14 district win against Boise. It's the lone 5A SIC defensive unit to give up less than 1,000 yards rushing.

And on the other side of the ball? Capital's No. 3-rated offense (402.8 ypg, 44.7 ppg) battles Mountain View's No. 2 rated defense (253.7 ypg, 16.3 ppg).

That said, Capital running back Charlie McMartin (120 carries, 783 yards, 12 TD) and quarterback Jeremy Powers (99-of-141, 1,257 yards, 13 TD, two INT) will face perhaps their toughest test, considering the teams didn't meet in the regular season.

The winner plays Highland or Idaho Falls.

Highland (7-2) vs. Idaho Falls (4-4)

The High County Conference rivals meet again for the second time in three weeks.

Defending state champion Highland won the aforementioned Oct. 23 battle, 20-7, thanks to quarterback Tanner Nielson (17-of-24, 219 yards) and receiver Jace Hansen (five catches, 130 yards) connecting for two touchdowns.

The winner plays Capital or Mountain View.

Coeur d'Alene (6-3) at Lake City (3-6)

In a battle of reversing trends, Coeur d'Alene started the season strong, finished poor, while Lake City started poor and finished strong.

The teams met on Oct. 23, when Lake City won 23-15. The Timberwolves' upset victory was assisted by recording 280 yards rushing and returning an interception for a touchdown.

The winner plays Eagle or Rocky Mountain.

4A

Pocatello (3-6) at Hillcrest (8-1)

The run-happy Hillcrest offense averaged 6.8 yards per carry this season, led by Jordan Speirs (185 carries, 1,260 yards, 22 TDs) and Devin Droghei (162 carries, 1,307 yards, 13 TDs).

Pocatello squeaked past Jerome 35-33 in the opening round to reach the quarterfinals. Team leaders include Wes Howard (96 carries, 776 yards, 12 TDs) and Robby Carr, who anchors a defense with 74 tackles and eight sacks.

The winner advances into the semifinals against Sandpoint or Middleton.

Blackfoot (8-1) at Bishop Kelly (8-1)

Running backs Matt Sato and Nik Buich lead a Bishop Kelly rushing attack that can pound the ball between the tackles. The defense is led by linebacker Cody McCarthy and defensive back Dominic Chumich.

Blackfoot is led by quarterback Anthony Clarke, who is 41-of-72 passing for 535 yards with six touchdowns, one interception. He also has rushed for 441 yards on 49 carries and five touchdowns.

The winner advances to the semifinals against Nampa or Twin Falls.

3A

Orofino (6-3) at Fruitland (6-3)

Daulton Blackwell and Jordan Martin lead a Fruitland team which defeated Wendell in the state tournament opening round last Friday.

Orofino defeated Priest River 27-21 to advance to the matchup against Fruitland.

The winner will face Timberlake or Payette.

Payette (7-2) at Timberlake (8-1)

The Payette ground game features multiple ball carriers, most notably Damian Reynolds, who's recorded 883 yards and 12 touchdowns on 106 carries.

Timberlake is led by versatile athlete John Morris, a running-receiving threat.

The winner faces Orofino or Fruitland

2A

Malad (7-2) vs. Declo (9-0)

McCoy Stoker and Tyler Briggs are touchdown-scoring regulars for Declo, which lost in the state title game last season against Parma.

The winner faces Kamiah or New Plymouth.

1A Division I

Raft River (7-2) at Prairie (9-0) at Kibbie Dome

Raft River is led by running back H.D. Tuckett, who recorded 377 yards on 38 carries this season in a victory against Lighthouse Christian.

The winner faces Potlatch or Wallace.

1A Division II

Mullan (3-6) at Kootenai (9-0)

The teams were supposed to meet Oct. 23, but Mullan had to forfeit.

Kootenai is led by quarterback Taylor Dodson and running back Jake Hall, both of whom dominate the stat sheet on a weekly basis.

The winner faces Salmon River or Garden Valley.

Dietrich (4-5) at Mackay (9-0)

Undefeated Mackay defeated Dietrich 38-26 in the third week of the season.

Quarterback Kole Krosch leads undefeated Mackay with his running and passing abilities. He accounted for eight touchdowns and 423 total yards in the season finale victory against Murtaugh.

The winner faces North Gem or Carey.
