Wednesday: The First Family of Bluegrass: Cherryholmes

Where you know them: In 10 short years the Cherryholmes family has become a major force in contemporary bluegrass and country music circles. This Los Angeles family hadn't even performed together prior to 1997 and not all of the members even played instruments. Almost overnight they won widespread acclaim and their star has been rising ever since.

Why you should go: Cherryholmes return to the Civic Center by popular demand after electrifying the audience in 2007. Their sound consists of hard driving instrumental virtuosity and lush vocal harmonies. It's said they can "bring out the your inner hillbilly" with their brand of picking, harmonizing and step-dancing. Wednesday's concert will also include a tribute to Veterans on Veteran's Day with their hit song, "This is My Son" and other special recognition. The evening begins with Savor the Arts @ 7 with appetizers with an artful twist and featured wines.

The lowdown: Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert are $28, available at the Civic Center box office during regular hours,  nampciviccenter.com or 468-5555.
