3.0 earthquake hits Challis

CHALLIS — A 3.0 magnitude earthquake in the Challis area has been reported by the U.S. Geological Service in the early morning hours of Wednesday. The area is 14 miles west of Challis and 104 miles northeast of Boise.

In 1983, Challis experienced significant damage from the Borah Peak earthquake that measured 6.9 on the Richter Scale.
