BOISE - Police are investigating a deadly crash that killed one person and injured four others.

The crash was reported around 1:30 this morning. When officers got to the scene at North Curtis Road and Opohonga Street, just north of the connector, they found a 2002 Lexus sedan that had struck a cement wall. Five people were inside the sedan, and police believe four were not wearing seatbelts.

Passenger Scott Hyde, 18, of Meridian, died at the scene. Four others, two men and two women between the ages of 17 and 19, were transported to the hospital. Three have life-threatening injuries. The occupant who was wearing her seatbelt suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police did not release names.

Investigating officers say speed appears to have been a contributing factor. The violence of the impact scattered debris from the crash over a very large area. The cement wall itself was also damaged. Boise firefighters had to extricate both front seat occupants.

The Boise Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Team and Detectives continue to investigate.

Comedy, much like politics, is all about timing. Rush the punchline and you blow the joke — or at least stifle its impact. Effective humor needs time to breathe.
