NAMPA — Because of recent complaints about excessive noise and the use of air compression brakes, the Nampa Police Traffic Team will enforce both the air compression brakes City Code and the excessive noise state law, officials said Thursday.

Officials said they’ve received complaints about the use of the compression brakes  — also known as jake brakes —  on 12th Avenue Road between Greenhurst Road and East Locust Lane.

City Code prohibits the use of air compression brakes within the city, except in an emergency situation to avoid a crash. Idaho law prohibits excessive noise from a motor vehicle, defined as noise in excess of 92 decibels at 20 feet to the side of the vehicle.

Violations of the Nampa City Code are an infraction with a fixed fine of $85.  Idaho Code 49-937 is an infraction with a fixed fine of $62.00
