CALDWELL - One home and an outbuilding were completely destroyed in a fire neighbors say began with fireworks, though Caldwell Fire officials say the cause is still under investigation.

Evacuated residents reported hearing fireworks outside before a tree in their neighborhood caught fire, quickly spreading to power lines.

Power outages spread down Caldwell Boulevard toward Nampa, affecting multiple substations, Idaho Power said. Businesses in the Treasure Valley Marketplace across I-84 and Gateway Center off Garrity reported power loss, as well as residents as far as Middleton Road and Hwy 20-26.

As of 9:20 p.m., Idaho Power had no estimated time for restoration of power.

Intermountain Gas and Idaho Power crews responded to the scene, as well as emergency responders from Caldwell, Nampa and Star. No injuries were reported.

Neighbors say their community, off Arthur Court between I-84 and the Boulevard, was also affected by last week's fire along the train tracks.
