CALDWELL — Though the sun was shining, it rained baby products Wednesday during an the annual one-day community baby shower. The event helps moms and expecting moms from Caldwell and around the valley provide for their children.

The donation drive benefits four non-profit organizations: BabySteps in Boise, Catholic Charities of Idaho in Nampa, Baby Haven at The Salvation Army in Caldwell and Marian Pritchett High School in Boise. Today’s 6 KIVI-TV, 94.9 The River and 107.1 K-Hits sponsored the event.

All four agencies offer incentive-based programs. In exchange for attending classes and going to doctors’ appointments, participants earn points they can use to redeem for the free baby items.

This year’s donation drive in Caldwell brought in the following items for The Salvation Army’s Baby Haven program:

  • more than 14,000 diapers
  • 317 packages of wet wipes
  • over 100 bottles of baby shampoo, baby lotion and baby oil
  • 157 articles of clothing in addition to blue cross
  • 72 homemade blankets or quilts
  • 17 homemade knitted booties with matching hats
  • 41 containers of formula
  • 135 baby food jars
  • 31 baby bottles
  • 25 baby sleeper pajamas
