Official: Toddler fatally run over by family member in Kuna

KUNA — A 22-month-old toddler died after a family member ran over the child with a truck about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, an Ada County Sheriff's Office official said.

Sheriff's deputies were on the scene and began performing CPR on the child in the 600 block of Red Oak Avenue in Kuna within a minute of the reported incident, spokeswoman Andrea Dearden said. Paramedics arrived and the child was transported to a local hospital, but the child could not be revived and was pronounced dead.

"A family member was moving a truck that was parked in the home's driveway and obviously did not believe the child was anywhere near the truck," Dearden said. "As he went to move the three-quarter- ton pickup, a 22-month-old child apparently ran behind the truck and was run over."

She added that the office will investigate but nothing appeared criminal about the incident.

"This is a tragic accident and a reminder for every driver to take those extra moments to check behind their vehicle ... take whatever steps necessary to make sure that a child cannot be behind a moving vehicle," Dearden said.

Comments:

Our hearts and prayers go out for the family. We are so very sorry for your loss.
