  Nampa City Council OKs Saint Al’s plan

NAMPA — The Nampa Cty Council has approved a memorandum of understanding between the city and Saint Alphonsus Health System on plans for a new hospital at the Nampa Health Plaza at the corner of Interstate 84 and Garrity Boulevard.

Nampa Housing Authority gets $183,540

NAMPA — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development last week awarded $183,540 to the Nampa Housing Authority to help public housing residents find job opportunities. It was one of 110 organizations — housing authorities, tribal organizations and non-profits — awarded a part of the $35.7 million total distributed.

Wayne Canaday sentenced for role in Pedro Martin Jr. murder

CANYON COUNTY — Wayne Leonard Canaday, one of five co-defendants charged in connection with the battery and murder of Pedro Martin Jr. in a Nampa drugstore parking lot last June, will serve eight years in prison with two years fixed for his role in the attack, 3rd District Judge Christopher Nye ruled Tuesday.

  Intent behind parental rights bill questioned

NAMPA — In southern Canyon County, there's a small, windswept cemetery on a hill overlooking the Snake River. There are around 600 people buried in Peaceful Valley Cemetery, owned by the Followers of Christ, a religious group that practices faith healing. More than 200 of those buried are children.
