MIDDLETON — The Ada County Prosecutor’s Office has determined Middleton Mayor Darin Taylor’s actions listed in materials provided by a group of residents were not criminal.

The materials were submitted to the Canyon County Prosecutor’s Office and the Idaho Attorney General’s Office to review for possible criminal charges Sept. 5.

The request was forwarded from Canyon County to the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office. The Attorney General’s Office declined the request due to budget limitations.

The group launched an effort to recall Taylor and published a report online that alleged Taylor held secret meetings outside of the city council’s authority, wasted taxpayer dollars and hired unqualified people among other things. Taylor denied the allegations.

“I am not surprised by the findings,” Taylor told the Idaho Press-Tribune. “I am pleased with the investigation and the thoroughness. There are some city residents and non-city residents that want to hold me to standards of what they would like the law to be rather than what it actually is.

“I’m confident the city now can move forward in accomplishing the goals that the residents have elected me to accomplish.”

Representatives from the recall effort did not return calls for comment Friday evening.
