We're a week into fall camp, and the newcomers have had a shot now to practice with the veterans. Defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski spoke with the media after practice and said a pair of true freshmen have caught his eye.

"Corey Bell, you can tell he knows leverage and concepts, he picks the stuff up well and plays extremely hard," Kwiatkowski said. "Lee Hightower has been doing some good things out there. Those are probably the two guys that have stood out the most."

Bell, a Capital High grad, is working as a nickel, while Hightower, from Inglewood, Calif., is a safety.

Play of the day: Joe Southwick hit Dallas Burroughs on a wheel route up the sideline for a 28-yard touchdown to cap off a 70-yard drive in a game-like setting.
