Got an e-mail last night from the Ward for Congress campaign wanting to be sure that we are all aware that National Journal had called the fundraising efforts of his opponent, "small potatoes."

Well, that's really relevant because we know that the quality of potential Congressional representation can be judged based on the size of the campaign's bank account. That's why we have such a great congress in Washington today, all elected with great funding.

So far, the battle for Idaho's 1st Congressional district remains an issue-free zone. So far, what we've heard from both campaigns is, "I've raised a lot of money." and "I've got a lot of political people backing me." And that's what Reporters have to write their stories.

However, as someone who cares about this country, and fears for its future, I see only sound and fury signifying nothing. I see almost no discussion of what these men will do in Washington, other than the fact that they'll oppose Obamacare. Even Mike Simpson can manage that, so I don't find that particularly impressive.

Do they even have an idea of what they want to do in Washington? Or are they going up there to add a line to their resume and enjoy the perks of being a member of Congress? Of course, in the world of politics if that's a case, a politician will spin you by saying, "I have no agenda other than going to serve the people." However, let me advise you of this simple fact if a member of Congress arrives with no agenda, there are plenty of lobbyists that will provide an agenda for him.

I look forward to hearing the candidates for Idaho's 1st talk about the issues that are on the minds of Idahoans. So far, it hasn't happened.
