... In terms of the quarterback situation that is. One of the hottest questions is who will start at QB when Boise State opens its season on Aug. 4.

Well, it true Petersen fashion, it is TBA for Broncos.

You can't really blame him, since Fall Camp is still a few weeks away Aug. 4.

"It worked for us before to be patient and work this thing out," Petersen said.

In the past, Petersen...read more

That's right, new Hawaii head man Greg McMackin -- who said he was on his honeymoon (it's his first time at the WAC football preview)-- talked to the media and said this year's Hawaii team will run the ball a bit more.

He also said that the team will not use the shotgun 100 percent of the time.

I think McMackin watched the Sugar Bowl game again and realized that his team was a bit predictable...read more

Dick Tomey said his team this season is the best, that may be scary.

A few season's ago, his team was a surprise and went 9-4, while last season was a setback with only a 5-7 mark.

Tomey said it looks like they have found their man at QB in junior Myles Eden.

"He's considerably ahead right now," Tomey said if Eden.

The biggest question now may be who will be the backup...read more

Derek Dooley, the La. Tech head man, just took the podium for the first session of the second day at WAC football preview.

Personally, I think La. Tech will be a surprise this season, given their top flight running backs (Patrick Jackson and Daniel Porter) and possibly their new QB in Georgia Tech transfer Taylor Bennett. Bronco fans may remember Bennett, a guy who originally committed to Boise State...read more

The best of the best
OK, this may be a bit silly, but I had a few extra minutes here at the Salt Lake City Hilton and decided to rank the best and worst in terms of covers for the newly released media guides.

Many of you may not know, but I do a lot of design work as well for our paper, so I have a interest in this kinda stuff.

Here's how I rank 'em
No. 1: New Mexico State: Old West look, I love it
No. 2: Nevada...read more

Well, Boise State was picked by the media, while Fresno State was picked by the coaches to win the Western Athletic Conference today at the WAC football preview in Salt Lake City.

That is interesting ... I went with Fresno State, based mostly on how they finished the season. I do think the Broncos may have the upper hand in terms of scheduling -- Boise State will host Fresno State in the season finale...read more

... Dave Southorn and I made the super-quick flight from BOI to SLC and are now sitting and waiting for the events to unfold here at the Hilton near the airport.

I must say, I'd rather be in San Jose, Boise (twice), or Reno -- home to the last four WAC football previews I have attended. Oh, well, we're not here for the scenery ...

Stay tuned for much more ... ...read more

It’s that time of year once again for the annual Western Athletic Conference football preview.

Dave Southorn and I are heading to Salt Lake City this morning to get ready for two days of football, football and yes, more football.

During the next few days we’ll have more than enough coverage of the upcoming football season, which is about five weeks away.

Some of the storylines to...read more

According to ESPN and the video game College Football ’09, it’s Tiger Stadium, the home of the Louisiana State Tigers.

Of the 25 toughest places on the list, only one was a mid-major team. Any guesses which team that is?

It’s Boise State!

The Broncos cracked the list at No. 24, a well-deserved honor for sure. Let me just say that I have only seen the Broncos lose one home game...read more

... It's been a few days (more than a week now) since my last post, sorry, but even I have to take a little vacation now and again.

I was sifting through my many e-mails during the past day or so and saw that I really didn't miss too much while I was gone — reason No. 1 to take a week off in early July. That all should change here soon enough with football gearing up in the next few weeks...read more
