Are you ready for some football

For all intents and purposes, our football season here in the Treasure Valley officially starts Wednesday.

That's right, in less than a day, the Western Athletic Conference will open its doors for its annual WAC media preview. This year, it's again in Salt Lake City.

All nine coaches will be on hand with plenty of clichs in tow; each team will also bring a few players to add their respective optimism.

And that's what it's all about. Optimism.

Each team will start the season with the same two words as they break a huddle during practice: WAC Champs!

And why not?

Boise State (which opens Fall Camp on Aug. 5) will be the preseason favorite -- and likely a top 20 team to start the season -- to win its seventh conference title in eight seasons. After all, the Broncos are 60-4 in conference games since joining the WAC in 2001.

But who's to say Nevada, with one of the best quarterbacks in country in Colin Kaepernick, doesn't have a puncher's chance.

Or what about La. Tech and Fresno State? Both those teams have as much talent as any team in the WAC.

Heck, there's reason to be excited if you're an Idaho, New Mexico State or Utah State fan. After all, the 2008 season is long gone, right?

The next month is the best for college football. Every team believes it can win a championship. Every team believes they can make a bowl game.

So are you ready for some football?

I know I am.
