LEWISTON — A pinch hit RBI fielder’s choice by Jordan Lanman scored Perry Hamilton from third base in the top of the 10th inning, as The College of Idaho ended an 18-game losing streak to Lewis-Clark State on Sunday with a 3-2 victory.
The upset over the No. 1- ranked Warriors came in the final game of the Regence Blue Shield Tournament at Harris Field. Lewis-Clark State is the defending NAIA champion.
The win for the Coyotes (4-4) was their first against L-C since February 2005 and their first extra inning win over their Idaho rivals since 1999.
With one out in the 10th, Hamilton looped a fly ball to right that was dropped by Chris Valencia, giving the Yotes the go-ahead run in scoring position. Luke Howarth laced the next pitch into right field for a base hit to put runners on the corners, with Lanman hitting a slow roller to shortstop, beating out the chance for a double play to give The C of I the lead.
Justin Marsh-Quinlan was stellar in relief, tossing three scoreless innings and recording a pair of strikeouts in the bottom of the 10th to notch his first win. Andrew Brock went the first seven innings for the Yotes, allowing just two runs on eight hits without a walk.
