CALDWELL — It took two matches, but Nampa Christian won the District-III 2A championship Thursday night, defeating Parma in four sets, 25-20, 14-25, 25-18, 25-18 at Vallivue High School.
Both teams advance to the state tournament.
"It was the hardest fought battle we've had all season," Nampa Christian coach Leslie Hughes said. "Parma is tough. They always seem to peak when it counts the most."
The Panthers swept Cole Valley Christian earlier in the day, 25-20, 25-15, 25-13. That placed them into a matchup with Nampa Christian. The Trojans just needed one win for the district title, while the Panthers needed two.
Parma won the opening match in five sets (25-21, 25-17, 21-25, 22-25, 15-11), but then fell in the sequel.
Leading Nampa Christian during the two matches was Kayla VanderStelt (63 kills), Jessica Bartlow (80 assists) and Ashley Crooks (32 digs).
Leading Parma was Kali Roche (47 kills, 49 digs, 20 blocks), Alli Nielsen (39 kills) and Alysha Rohrbacher (71 assists).
