Wednesday's Roundup: Comeback keeps Skyview alive

MIDDLETON — The Skyview volleyball team battled back from a two-game deficit to stay alive, beating Emmett 21-25, 25-27, 25-14, 25-22, 15-10 in a District III-4A tournament loser-out match on Wednesday.
"I just thought we started playing better defense," Skyview coach Kevin Murphy said.
That helped spark an offense led by Rochelle Sever with 14 kills and three blocks. McKenna Ford added 12 kills and Olivia Raass had seven kills for the Hawks (10-7 overall), who play Bishop Kelly tonight at 5 at Middleton High School for a berth to state.
Emmett was led by Sam Adkinson with 20 kills, and Katie Griffith and Lindsey Stover, who each had 30 digs.
Bishop Kelly 3, Middleton 2
MIDDLETON — With three players battling the flu, the Middleton Vikings simply ran out of gas and could not finish off Bishop Kelly.
The Knights rallied to end Middleton's season with a 25-19, 20-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-8 win in a District III-4A tournament loser-out match.
"BK played really well, they played the best I've seen them this year," Middleton coach Jan Arrasmith said.
Liz Myers led the Vikings in the loss with 20 kills, five blocks and four aces, while Maddie Laan added six kills and Krissy Quenzer dished out 30 assists.
Borah 3, Mountain View 2
MERIDIAN — Jade Gray led the way with 42 assists while adding in seven digs and three kills, helping Borah rally for a 25-16, 22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13 win over Mountain View in the District III-5A tournament.
Hannah Schleis added 21 kills, three blocks and two digs and Sydney Porter had 27 digs and a kill for the Lions (25-9), who earned a state berth with the victory.
Kenzie Kaba led Mountain View with eight kills, four aces and 10 blocks, while Rachel Curtis had six kills, two aces and 19 digs. Nicole Kopczynski added three kills, 10 blocks and an ace and Mikaila Forrey had two aces and 14 assists for the Mavericks.
Borah continued on and lost 25-22, 25-13, 25-12 to Centennial, finishing fourth in the tournament and earning a state berth.
Centennial beat Timberline 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-19, sending the Wolves into a match with the Mavericks for a state play-in berth.
And in the night's other match Eagle beat Rocky Mountain 25-27, 25-20, 26-24, 25-14 in the winner's bracket.
Cross Country
Jensen, Svedin each second
HORSESHOE BEND — Liberty Charter's Jordan Jensen and Melba's Jolene Svedin each raced to a second-place finish at the District III-2A/1A cross country championships hosted by Horseshoe Bend High.
Jensen was second to Cascade's Dylan Crevelt, who won the boys race in 17 minutes, 35 seconds. Jensen clocked a time of 17:50.
Melba's Tyler Leavitt was fourth in 18:05 and Layne Johnson was fifth for Parma in 18:10.
On the girls side, New Plymouth's Natalie Evans won the girls race in a dominating time of 19:44, with Svedin second in 21:21, two seconds faster than the Pilgrims' Stephanie Shaver.
No team scores from the race were available.
