Treasure Valley Festival of Bands
Twenty top-notch competitive marching bands from throughout Idaho descend on Vallivue High School, 1407 E. Homedale Road, for the 2009 Treasure Valley Festival of Bands Saturday. The event runs from 1:30-6:50 p.m. and showcases the host Marching Falcons, Nampa, Columbia, Caldwell, Homedale, Payette, Parma, Weiser, Kuna, Meridian, Fruitland and Rocky Mountain high schools among the competitors. Tickets are $5/adult, $3/seniors and students, at the door.
3rd Annual Fall Farm Festival
Watson's Sunnyslope Farm, 13243 Sunnyslope Road, Caldwell, is the place to be Saturday for all sorts of harvest fun and activities at the 3rd Annual Fall Farm Festival. Bring the family for a chance to dash through three different corn mazes stretching over 23 miles, pick out pumpkins in the pumpkin patch and take a hay ride. There's also a kids corner, a straw maze, farm animals, face painting, bouncy houses, kettle korn, yummy food and local apple cider. You also can purchase fresh fall produce and listen to live music by the Ian McFeron Band at 2 p.m.
Watson's purchased Spot Pizza (located just west of the Marsing bridge at the corner of Sandbar Ave. and Hwy. 55) so you can stop in for some of the best pizza, homemade soups and sandwiches. The event is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Corn maze prices range from $5 to $8 and is free for kids under 5.
Nampa
'Celtic Fusion'
Enjoy Irish Dance Idaho at its finest at Saturday's Irish Dance Idaho "Celtic Fusion." The 7 p.m. show at the Nampa Civic Center blends Irish and Scottish music and some music from Galicia with signature dancing by the talented company. They'll be lots of soft shoe, hard shoe, ceili and show-style dancing for the entire family to enjoy. A special Senior Faire pre-show is set for 2 p.m. featuring the little Irish Dance Idaho performers. Tickets to the pre-show are $5 for seniors and $7 for all others. Tickets to Celtic Fusion are $10 each, available at the Civic Center Box office or 468-5555.
MMA Challenge Fright Night Fight
Lucky 7 Promotions and Extreme Challenge presents the MMA Challenge Fright Night Fights at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Idaho Center. The Idaho Athletic Commission sanctioned event card features five amateur title belts and two pro fights including Idaho's own "Ice Cold" Kyasey Uscola vs. Koffi, "Lion King" Adziso, Jesse Brock vs. an opponent to be announced and fistfuls more of action.
There will be guest appearances and an autograph signing by former WEC champions and MMA legends Urijah Faber, Jens Pulver, and Elite XC champion Robbie Lawler. Pulver will sign autographs and be available for photos from 5:15-5:45 p.m. today at Redline Recreational Toys, 535 N. Locust Grove, Meridian. A former BSU wrestler, Pulver lives with his family in Nampa and trains at the MMA center in Caldwell.
Boise
'The Sun Road'
Boise-based contemporary dance troupe the Trey McIntyre Project opens a new season with the premiere of McIntyre's newest masterpiece "The Sun Road" as part of their 8 p.m. performance Saturday at the Morrison Center for Performing Arts at BSU. The innovative dance company also will perform the Boise debut of "Shape" with music by Goldfrapp and "Polyphonic Spree." Tickets range from $35 to $50 with student, senior and faculty discounts available; available at the Morrison Center box office, all Select-a-Seat outlets, or by phone, 426-1110.
Little Shop of Horrors
Join Seymour and his people-eating plant at Starlight Mountain Theatre's production of the musical comedy, "Little Shop of Horrors" which opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday and runs weekends through Nov. 14. Tickets are $12/adult, $11/seniors, $10/children and are available at ICtickets.com, 462-5523, 442-3232 or at the box office one hour prior to the performance. The theater is located at 1851 Century Way, Suite 3, Boise (across from Costco off Cole).
