Motion hearing to release Zachary Neagle under own recognizance Aug. 5

CANYON COUNTY - Judge Bradley Ford today rescheduled a motion hearing to release murder suspect Zachery Neagle under his own recognizance or reduce his bond for next week.

The hearing will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 5

Neagle, 14, is charged as an adult with killing his father, 33-year-old Jason Neagle. A small group of protesters critical of Neagle's adult status in the trial stood outside the courthouse before today's proceeding, as they have for other court hearings in Neagle's case.

At Neagle's review hearing today Ford also spoke of the restraining order in the case which prevents attorneys on both sides from speaking publicly about any details in the case other than court dates. He said the order would not prevent the media from reporting on the case.

Attorneys met with Ford for about 30 minutes before the review hearing began at the Canyon County courthouse. Neagle chatted with a sheriff's deputy as they waited for Ford and the prosecutors and defense attorney to return from their meeting to the courtroom.

County prosecutors have charged Neagle with the murder of his father, who died from a wound caused by a single shot from a high-powered rifle May 16 at the family's home in Caldwell.

Neagle, who was a student Vallivue Middle School, was arrested on a warrant for first-degree murder after an interview with Caldwell police. Neagle did not confess to the murder during police interviews, nor did he deny it when presented with the evidence against him.

A family member told police he suspected Jason Neagle sexually abused his son.
