Grad heads to golf academy

Dustin Downs, Vallivue High School
CALDWELL — A graduate of Vallivue High School, Dusty Downs plans to leave Idaho this fall to attend the Golf Academy of America in California.
Downs transferred to Vallivue High from Nampa Christian School. He played on the golf teams at both schools, as well as being involved in football, cross-country and basketball.

Activities: Golfing, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling
Hobbies: Hanging out with friends
Future plans: I plan to go to the Golf Academy of America in San Diego, Calif., where I will become a golf instructor. Down the road I hope to get married and have a family.

What is it about your role models that help you be successful?
They never give up when times get hard and they all are great Christian men.
Why do you think you are a "kid you should know"? What makes you stand out in the crowd?
I am a good friend, sincere and a good listener.
When people first meet you, what do you think their impression is of you?
Someone who is respectful and enjoys having a good time with friends.
Once they get to know you, does that impression change?
I sure hope not. They may come to find I can often be sarcastic.
How would your friends describe you?
The nice guy, friendly, adventurous and a slight risk-taker.
Have you always been the way you are today?
I have changed a little bit due to the difference between public school and a Christian school.
Have you had any challenges to overcome?
You cannot go through life without running into some sort of challenge, so yes.
What advice would you give to kids your age about achieving goals?
Never give up, there is almost always a way to get around the problems in life. Stay in school.
What advice have you been given that really made a difference?
What is the point in trying something if you don't give it your best shot?
What do you like to do in your free time when you are not in school?
I enjoy hunting, golfing, snowmobiling, swimming, lifting and hanging out with friends.
