CALDWELL — The Caldwell Police Department honored Sgt. Jim Watson on Friday for 20 years of service.
Officials commended Watson at a ceremony, saying he has worked hard over the past two decades, specifically with local children and the community.
"I've not done anything that miraculous over the years; (I) tried to teach, counsel and help kids get through their troubles," Watson said.
He taught Adopt-A-Cop classes, where police officers visit a specific elementary school class and talk about issues like safety. Caldwell Police Chief Chris Allgood said this allows officers to meet students in a positive environment.
Watson also worked with students at Vallivue High School for six years as the school resource officer.
Allgood said Watson is a hard worker and requires little supervision.
"Jim is a wonderful employee. He's one of these guys who comes in and does his job," Allgood said. "(He) likes to work in the community and do different things with the public."
Policing the city has changed during the last few decades, Watson said.
"We started out here 20 years ago with minimal equipment, minimal vehicles, and over the years we've progressed to a beautiful building, newer cars, good equipment ... these are thanks to the citizens of Caldwell that believe in us," Watson said.
