CALDWELL — Canyon County Habitat for Humanity has a delicious and fun way for you to help qualified low-income families become homeowners.
Join them Thursday at Faith Lutheran/Treasure Valley Church when they partner with Golden Corral to sponsor the 6th Annual Chili Dinner & Bingo Night. The event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit ecumenical Christian housing organization.
“We’re really excited about our progress,” Habitat executive director Marcia Davis said. “Our goal is to make a better community one family at a time. We want to help individual families to live in affordable, secure housing.”

The Canyon County HfH has constructed two homes a year for the past three years and Davis said their goal is to do even more. “We feel we can grow. Our goal is to build between three and five homes a year. It’s always our goal to increase, but in this economy we’re happy if we get our two built.”
Habitat for Humanity already has plans in place to construct a pair of homes in 2009 and currently is seeking qualified applicants. Applicants must have lived and/or worked in Canyon County for at least one year. They must currently be living in inadequate housing, and must be able to repay an interest-free loan. “They pay back a principal-only mortgage. It’s real affordable,” Davis explained.
Habitat for Humanity will conduct a series of application meetings beginning tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Endeavor Elementary School, 2824 E. Victory Road, Nampa. Other sessions are set for this Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Canyon County Habitat for Humanity office, 1321 Alder St., Caldwell; 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20 at Faith Lutheran/TVCC Church, 2915 S. Montana, Caldwell; and 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at First United Methodist Church, 2717 12th Ave. Road, Nampa. Application will only be given out at these meetings. Applicants should bring copies of their most recent pay stubs (please include documents for all sources of income in your household), along with copies of your state and federal income tax returns for 2007.
Davis expects more than 100 people to attend Thursday’s chili dinner/bingo. “It’s lots of fun and fairly affordable itself. Families come and the bingo is lots of fun. Golden Corral is helping us with the food. It’s a nice thing they are doing for us.”
